How do I buy Asian stocks that are not denominated in the US dollars?
Hey,
There are some great Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese stocks that offer great dividends and are grossly undervalued.
How do I buy them without buying the US denominated companies that are traded on the US exchanges cause I think that the dollar will lose value in the long term...
Or will the US dollar inflation factor that in by raising the nominal value of those companies in US dollars?
Anyhow, I live in Canada and i wanna get in on those nice double digit dividends in Asia, especially China.
If you purchase an American Depository Receipt (ADR), that represents a certain number of shares on the foreign exchange.
Since the ADR is really shares in the foreign company, it should rise and fall a similar percentage but adjusted to the exhange rate of the foreign currency. Therefore even though the ADR is bought and sold in US dollars, the ADR also has the advantage/risk of the foreign currency built into the trade and not the US dollar.
Actually as an American there is an advantage purchasing an ADR over purchasing foreign shares on a foreign market. When purchasing an ADR there isn't an exchange rate charge each time you purchase or sell the ADR since an exchange rate charge is only performed once when the bank creates the ADR.
